Don't be Wrapped Up in Yourself

self centered quote, narcissistic quote, pride quote

At the very best, a person completely wrapped up in himself (or herself) makes a small package.

This is not an original thought, just a good one, that I thought I would pass on today. The Great Commandment is to be wrapped up in God and in others, to the same degree and passion, that we prefer to be wrapped up in ourselves.

Expand your life - get involved with others.

Rock Star Pastors

Jesus Was Not a Rock Star

Saving Leonardo, by Nancy Pearcey was a great book. I took about a month to go through it. Near the very end, she shared a perspective from TV producer Mark Joseph on the problem of the celebrity pastor. Here are her words:

"If you go to a pastor's church where he's a star, you're really there as a member to uphold his arms and help him make a bigger impact for the world (Mark Joseph)." A more biblical model is the reverse, where the leader's role is teaching and equipping lay people to go out and work on the front lines. As Joseph put it, the pastor should be "holding up the arms of the people of his congregation who are then empowered to go and do good things for the world..."

The Narcissism Epidemic

. . . Living in the Age of Entitlement

Over the years I have read various good books on the theme of the narcissistic leader. I've read them because from time to time, I find myself working as a mentor for such a leader. I've also read them, because, from time to time - I too suffer from thinking too highly, too often, too uncritically about my self.
