Your Wild and Precious Life

Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
Mary Oliver

At a recent funeral, I spoke from Psalm 90 (a Psalm of Moses). Moses describes life as short and the days as difficult. Even though life is short and difficult, there is something fierce and beautiful, wild and precious about it.

We are, after all, just a little lower then the angels.
We are those of whom it is said, "God is mindful."
Fearful and wonderful is how we are created.
Magnificent purpose is why we are here.
(See Psalm 8 & 139) and Ephesians 2:10)

The Meaning of Life

What is the meaning of life?
That is a great question, but it is not the only question, and perhaps it is not even the best question.

Here is another question, similar theme, but very different focus:
How can my life become more meaningful?

Do you see the difference between these two? The first question may involve reflection and discovery, even insight. But... technically, that is all that question is designed to achieve - an understanding about the meaning of life. (Note - the Westminster Shorter Catechism, Q & A #1 is a pretty good place to begin on this.)

Questioned By Life

Victor Frankl, quote, questioned by life

Victor Frankl is one of those people positioned to hold us to a higher standard of existence. This is one of his statements. As a Christian, I must reframe this with God as the Source of Life, the Meaning of Life, the One to whom I am accountable for my life.
