The World Needs you to "Get On With It"

You owe it to all of us to get on with what you're good at. W.H. Auden

These words from W.H. Auden really, REALLY spoke to me. Concise, clear, compelling.

You are good at something. Maybe you are good at several things.

What you are good at, has been entrusted to you. You are a steward of what you are good at it.

It has been entrusted to you for a reason. You are to take what you are good at, and get about doing that very thing(s).

Others need you to get on with doing what you are good at. They need you to get on with it, because you are good at things others are not good at doing. You are needed. Your contribution is necessary. You have value to add to the world around you. To your family, your friends, your place of work, your community, your church...

You owe it to us... Yes you do... You have a debt, an obligation, a duty - to us. There is "oughtness" all over life. Even though our current culture HATES the words in this sentence, these things are actually great and noble themes.

Get on it with it. Do it. Do it often. Do it well. Do it better and better. Do it so you become great at doing it. Then keep doing it.

What Auden does not say, in this short sentence, needs to be added. As you do this, as you get on with it, you will experience meaning, purpose, satisfaction, fulfillment, contentment, and joy. You were made for this. And when you get on with it, you are in the flow of life as it is meant to be.

So, what are you waiting for?
Today is a new day to "get on with it..."

May the rich love, mercy and grace of God empower you every step of the way.
