Tozer on the Will of God

A. W. Tozer and Ignatius of Loyola are on the same page.

It is the page of Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane: Let this cup pass from me, yet, not my will be done but THY WILL BE DONE (Luke 22:42).

It is the page of Jesus Christ, what he taught in the Lord's Prayer: Our Father in Heaven, holy be your name, thy kingdom come, THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven (Mathew 6:910).

It is the page of Jesus when he said: My food is to do the will of him who sent me and finish his work (John 4:34).

It is the page of Jesus when he said: For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me (John 6:38).

Ignatius created a spiritual formation process (known as The Exercises) designed to inculcate this very attitude. That the retreatant, at the end of the 30 Day Retreat would have this one desire. They would desire for themselves, only what God desires for them. They would want, more than anything else, the will of God.

That is what Tozer taps into with his thought:

Outside the will of God there is nothing I want.
And in the will of God there is nothing I fear.

This is our purpose and in this is our true happiness/blessedness.
May that be your desire, your will, your prayer and your happiness as well.
