Spiritual Leadership: Giving Everything Back to God

Erma Bombeck
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would hot have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me."

These words come to mind for me as I read Erma Bombeck's longing.

Desire.
Dedication.
Devotion.
Passion.
Energy.
Enthusiasm.
Vitality.

Erma Bombeck's is on to something very important.
She knows she has been bought with a price, she is no longer her own, she belongs to another, she belongs to Christ.

She knows Jesus has been so very generous with Erma. He has given her everything. He has given her gifts, talents, strength, time, purpose, meaning, direction, assignments, opportunities, invitations, second chances... everything is GIFT from Christ to her.

She knows she is now responsible as a steward to take care of what has been entrusted to her. It is entrusted for her to bless the world, to be a vehicle, an avenue, a conduit of God's love through her to those around her.

She knows...
And she will not willingly allow a single day, a single gift, a single talent, a single opportunity be squandered, neglected or half-done.

She is fully alive...fully in love...fully empowered...
I suspect, that as it was for Jesus, so it was for Erma - that her food and substance was to do the will of her God and Savior and to complete what had been given her.

That is the way of spiritual leadership.
