Nine Reasons Why You Don't Ever Lose Hope

hope springs eternal for those who believeI will let you in on what should be a poorly kept secret known and celebrated by all the saints.  No matter had difficult things might be, pessimism and despair can NEVER be the mindset for one who follows Christ. Here is why (and thanks to Peter Kreeft for this reminder, the stepping stones are his ideas, most of the words are my own attempt to describe these reasons for hope).

1.  No one knows the future except for God. To be pessimistic is to have too much confidence in your own negative view of the world and your own short-sightedness of Kingdom Affairs.

2.  Repentance is always a real possibility. That means forgiveness and change are real as well. Turn arounds (repentance) happen. We come to our senses. After walking in darkness, you can chose the light, the good, the true and the beautiful.

3.  The powers of Providence and the Presence of the Spirit keep evil restrained. No matter how much we have polluted the world (poisoned souls do leak into the environment), this is still our Father's World. He is the sovereign Ruler.

4.  All things come to an end. Even evil things are not forever. There is ebb and flow in human history.

5.  There is always a remnant of God's people and only one person is needed to start an avalanche of love, goodness, holiness, purity. When one person dares to "be the change" amazing things have happened. They will happen again. It only takes a spark...

6.  God counsels and commands "HOPE." It is not an empty counsel or an in vain command. Without being trite - the final chapter has been written.

Good wins.
Glory cascades into the Grime of life.
Majesty mingles with the Mud (and Crud) and majesty is the victor.
Beauty triumphs over Blight.
Love overcomes the Lonely.

7.  Prayer is Powerful. Enough said, except - pray.

8.  Grace is stronger than death, Heaven than hell, Jesus than Satan, Mercy than sin.

9.  It is not over until the fat lady sings. On the world's final night there will not be a fat lady singing but a terrible angel gloriously trumpeting the Return of the King. When it is over, we will know one of the oldest truths in the universe - "And they lived happily with Christ in glory for ever after. World without end. Amen and Amen.

This is just good theology and sound spirituality. This is why we live by faith, hope and love. This is why courage is possible. Why we endure and persevere. Why the Apostle Paul said these words:

But we have this treasure in jars of clay,
so that it may be made clear
that this extraordinary power belongs to God
and does not come from us.

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed,
perplexed, but not driven to despair,
persecuted but not forsaken,
struck down, but not destroyed

always carrying in the body the death of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies.
2 Corinthians 4:7-10
