Joy is the Serious Business

Of Heaven... and of Earth
One of C. S. Lewis' core themes was joy. Joy that included delight, desire and longing. Lewis believed that heaven was full of joy. That joy was so integral to heaven, it was to seen as the "serious business of heaven," -- to be joyfu.

So, when we pray the Lord's prayer:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven . . .

. . . then we are praying that our world would be full of the joy that is the hallmark of heaven. Of course, that means we are praying our own lives would be full of the serious business of heaven as well. And as that serious business cascades into our lives, it must and will overflow out of us as acts of EXTREME GRATITUDE.

We are of all people - most blessed with the serious business of heaven.
We are of all people - most responsible to live gratefully, thankfully, joyfully, optimistically, vitally, energetically . . .

For as the serious business of heaven becomes our serious business on earth . . .  the burdens of our world are lifted, the darkness of our world is brightened, the sadnesses of our world are tempered . . . with JOY.

So, may you live joyfully, speak joyfully, lead joyfully, worship joyfully . . . and so bring the serious business of heaven to earth.
